- Ukrainian generals claim they have broken through Russia's first line of defences in the south, as the counter-offensive launched this summer may be poised to gather speed.
- Ukrainian forces are trying to widen the gap to allow larger infantry and armoured units to pass through a bridgehead around the village of Robotyne without being attacked by Russians.
- If that is successful, Ukraine's offensive may gain momentum as it approaches the second and third defensive lines.

- The deputy premier of Bavaria will keep his job after drama about an antisemitic pamphlet written in the 1980s.
- Hubert Aiwanger denied writing a leaflet which mocked the Holocaust but admitted carrying "one or several" copies as a school boy.
- Bavaria's conservative leader Markus Soder said it would be unreasonable to fire his partner. 

3. Israel: Netanyahu wants immediate deportation of Eriteans after Tel Aviv violence
- Israel is considering the immediate deportation of Eritrean asylum seekers involved in riots in Tel Aviv.
- Around 170 people were injured in violent clashes with police and between different sides of the Eritrean regime.
- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "a red line" had been crossed, ordering the removal of all African migrants that he sees as illegal infiltrators.

- Ukrainian generals claim they have breached Russia's formidable first line of defences in the south, as the counter-offensive launched earlier this summer may be poised to gather pace.
- Ukrainian forces are now trying to widen the gap to allow larger infantry and armoured units to pass through a bridgehead around the village of Robotyne without coming under Russian fire.
- If that can be achieved, there is a chance Ukraine's offensive can gain momentum as it approaches the second and third defensive lines.

2. Hubert Aiwanger: Bavarian deputy leader keeps job after antisemitism claims
- The deputy premier of the German state of Bavaria will stay in his post following controversy concerning an antisemitic pamphlet written in the 1980s.

- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "a red line" had been crossed, ordering a new plan to remove all African migrants that he described as illegal infiltrators.
