- A suspected Chinese surveillance balloon that the US shot down this week was able to collect communications signals, a US official has said.

- It was equipped with multiple antennas capable of "intelligence collection operations".

- On Thursday, US lawmakers passed a non-binding resolution condemning China for the balloon.

2. Viktoria Nasyrova: Woman guilty of lookalike cheesecake poisoning plot

- A Russian woman living in New York city has been found guilty of attempting to murder her doppelgänger in a bizarre identity-theft plot.

- Viktoria Nasyrova tried to kill her beautician Olga Tsvyk in 2016 by giving her a piece of cheesecake poisoned with a strong sedative.

- However, Ms Tsvyk survived, and when she returned from hospital, found her identity documents had been stolen.

3. Starship: SpaceX tests the most powerful ever rocket system

- Elon Musk's SpaceX company has performed a key test on its huge new rocket system, Starship.

- Engineers conducted what's called a "static fire", simultaneously igniting 31 out of 33 of the engines at the base of the vehicle's lower-segment.

- The firing lasted only a few seconds, with everything clamped in place to prevent any movement.
