- The House of Representatives select committee will seek an unprecedented charge of insurrection against a former US president.
- Trump supporters stormed Congress on 6 January 2021 in a bid to stop Joe Biden's certification as president.

2. Angelina Jolie steps down as UN refugee envoy
- Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie says she is stepping down from her role as an ambassador for the UN refugee agency UNHCR after more than 20 years.
- The UNHCR said she was one of the most influential refugee rights advocates.
- The UNHCR said in a statement that Angelina Jolie would "engage on a broader set of humanitarian and human rights issues".

3. Dart: Asteroid deflection experiment boosted by debris
- The Nasa probe that struck an asteroid in September to try to deflect its path had a bigger effect because of all the debris it kicked out.
- The Dart mission slammed into egg-shaped Dimorphous to demonstrate how hazardous rocks posing a threat to the Earth could be moved out of the way.
- It was very successful, but even more so because the impact dug up a million kilograms of surface material.
